Kvaerner accepts fine

9 August 2012 – On 8 February 2012 a workplace accident occurred at Kvaerner’s yard at Verdal. Three persons were injured in a fall accident when working in a personnel basket from a crane.

Kvaerner has executed an internal investigation and has cooperated with the Police and the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority during the investigation of the accident. The investigation of the Police is completed and the Police have issued a fine of NOK 900 000. The grounds for the fine are according to Kvaerner’s own findings from the company’s internal investigation.

Kværner Verdal AS assumes no criminal liability, but have after an overall evaluation decided to accept the fine.

Following the accident, Kvaerner has worked in close cooperation with employee representatives, employees and management to further improve safety at the Verdal yard. All findings from Kvaerner’s internal investigation have been implemented.  The Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority have confirmed that Kværner Verdal AS have complied with all injunctions.
